Tours and Excursions in Cape Town

LAL Cape Town runs an extensive range of exciting excursions for our young learners. Students will be accompanied by their group leader on all tours, packed
lunches will be provided on full day tours.

City Tour

Get yourself orientated in Cape Town. Take a guided, walking tour of the historical city centre, through the beautiful Company’s Gardens and shop around Green Market Square for African souvenirs.

V & A Waterfront

This working harbour and shopping/entertainment development has become Cape Town and South Africa’s premiere tourist attraction. There are over 400 shopping outlets. Enjoy the sights of seals in the harbour, luxury yachts and street theatre. Students will be given the opportunity to experience what the Waterfront has to offer.

Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Cheetah Park and Lion Farm

Stellenbosch is famous for its wine farms; it has the oldest wine route in the country and offers some of South Africa’s finest wines. Students will be transported from the school to the Cheetah Park and lion farm. To touch the Cheetahs and Lions will cost a small fee. We then move onto Franschoek which is another wine area with a very strong French influence from the French Huguenots who used to live there. A walk around the town will lead to several monuments and much French architecture.

Table Mountain

Table Mountain offers a spectacular and unique view of the city. Students are transported from the school to Table Mountain where they will catch the cable car to the top. Once on the Mountain, students are able to walk, shop, use telescopes, take photos and eat at the restaurant. Even in clear, warm weather take a sweater or windbreaker, as it tends to cool at an altitude of 1086m.

Hermanus

Hermanus is famously known as the home of the Southern Right Whale. It is attractively set between mountain and Blue Ocean and is a paradise for whale watching. During the whale breeding season (June to November), students get the rare opportunity to watch these gentle giants.

Action Cricket (Alternative tour)

Cricket is one of South Africa’s traditional sports. Action cricket is played indoor, inside a large net and is fun for both boys and girls and like the name, is action packed. It will be a great experience, especially for those who have never played before.

Lion's Head

Is the unusual sugar-loaf feature to the right of Table Mountain as you look from the city. The two are connected by the saddle of land known as Kloof Nek. Wonderful views of the Twelve Apostles, Robben Island, the sea and city can be seen from up there. Students will embark on a 45 minute-to-an-hour hike up the mountain. The hike is characterised by chains and ladders for the more adventurous hiker.

Full Day Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve

Cape Point, in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, is the most southern point in the Cape Peninsula where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The reserve is home to chachma baboons, ostrich and bontebok (a type of buck) as well as the indigenous plant life of South Africa. Students will be transported to and from the Cape of Good Hope.

Boulder’s Beach

We will visit Boulder’s Beach, a sanctuary for the African Penguin where students can relax in the sun amongst the penguins on the beach.

Ostrich Farm

Students will visit the West Coast Ostrich farm, where they will learn about the largest living bird as well as have the opportunity to ride one of these creatures.

Two Oceans Aquarium

Students will be able to view more than 3000 animals from the ocean’s realms, and watch fish feeding.

Canal Walk

With over 400 shops, entertainment, cinemas, restaurants and coffee shops, Canal Walk is the biggest shopping centre in the Western Cape. This tour offers students an opportunity to get last minute gifts for their family and friends back home.

Seal Island and World of Birds

This seal colony is home to around 2000 of these marine mammals. Students will embark on a boat which rides around the bay, giving an opportunity to view both seals and penguins in their unique habitat. On leaving the boat, there is an African market whereby students will be able to buy some African curios before heading back to the school. Students will visit the World of Birds in Hout Bay and walk through aviaries of exotic birds and monkeys.

Grand West Entertainment Complex

Students will be able to enjoy the fun and games that Grand West offers. There is a wide range of activities including an Olympic sized ice-rink, which is an icy escape, and a videogame arcade.

Monkey Town and Strand Beachfront

We visit Monkey Town, a sanctuary to over 20 different species of monkeys. Students will be educated on the conservation of these primates and the threat which humans pose to them. The monkeys are very playful and extremely fun to watch. Afterwards, we will head to the Strand beachfront where the students can go for a dip in the ocean (weather permitting) or just laze around on the beach.

Ten Pin Bowling

Student will be put into teams where they will test their bowling skills against one another.

½ Day Township Tour

Come and experience the magic and mysteries of the townships. Students will be able to learn about South African history and what the effects of apartheid had on the people of South Africa.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens

Set against the majestic Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch has a rich botanical diversity with over 5000 species of fauna. Students will be given the opportunity to explore the wonders of our natural beauty.

South African National Museum and National Gallery

By visiting the South African National Museum students will be able to have a greater understanding and appreciation of natural history. They will then move onto the National Gallery where exhibitions of African art can be viewed.

West Coast National Park and Fossil Museum

Students will enjoy a full day guided tour through the park and the Fossil Museum. The museum is home to the oldest human footprint in existence, while the national park is home to various animals and plant life. Weather permitting, students will go to the nearby lagoon, where they can relax or go for a swim.

District 6 Museum

This excursion will allow students to learn about South Africa’s Apartheid past. It focuses on the forced removal of a community from their homes, and is very important for the students as it will give them a better understanding of Apartheid.

Bo-Kaap and Slave Lodge (Alternative tour)

Walking through the Muslim suburb of the Bo-Kaap opens the door to South Africa’s past slave trade. A visit to the Slave Lodge will show how the slave trade played a role in developing the Muslim community that currently resides there and the role of slavery in South Africa’s past.

Cape of Good Hope Castle

The Castle is the oldest building in South Africa. A tour of the Castle will enlighten the students on the founding of the Cape and how it was established by the Dutch as well as the history of the Castle.

Access Park

Access Park is a factory outlet shopping park where students can buy well priced clothing and goods.
